Born in Dublin I got into music at an early stage. My father was a good singer and played harmonica and my mother sang as she worked around the house.
I got into listening to Radio Luxembourg and heard all the great Blues, Country, Folk and Jazz.
Also, Radio Caroline played a lot of Folk.
"The Dubliners" were very popular in Europe and brought a whole new audience to Irish music.
Mick Maloney and Barney McKenna were my favourite banjo players.
I travelled with Ted Furey around Ireland and met so many musicians.
I travelled to Bangor, Wales for a Folk festival in 1974 and then around Scotland, England and on to Berlin.
I formed a group called Tara and toured Germany and Denmark playing Folk clubs and festivals.
During this time I recorded two albums.
I also played music for "The Hostage" by Brendan Behan and "The Tinker's Wedding" by John M. Synge.
Then I moved on to America and lived and performed all over the States meeting so many other musicians at festivals and clubs and doing Radio and Television.
Moving back and forward to Europe for tours was a lot of fun but became too much for the band so I went solo and have been ever since.
I recorded a lot but never released an album until my latest CD "Brighten up my Days".
I did different material on this with some of my own songs and tunes.
But I want to do more of my own songs and am working on that now.
